As you know, Cecile; associate of the Stampin Up! and Jerky Direct companies; was picked for this weeks featured home business of the week! Both of these are Direct sales companies. Where you sign up as a distributor and then promote and sell the product, making commissions. Great work from home choices!
Yesterday, Cecile participated in a short interview about her business. I’ve included the interview below for your reading pleasure.
What is your business in a nutshell?
Stampin Up! - I teach people how to be creative with ink and paper! The products that I promote including stamp sets, scrapbook kits, ink, paper and other creative accessories. I also teach monthly stamping classes on card making and scrapbooking. My Jerky business is all about a natural meat snack. I promote the product to individuals and businesses who want to find all natural, hormone free beef and turkey jerky products.
What is your day to day like?
I work about one hour a week on each of my businesses, except right before I teach a stamping class. That week I will work about 5-6 hours preparing the materials.
What made you decide to start the ‘direct sales’ business?
I first got hooked going to a Stampin’ Up! party and then to a class. I love crafts and I was hooked after seeing all the great products. My family loves jerky and for $12.00 a month I get two bags of jerky and my own website.
How much did you spend to get started?
With Stampin’ Up! you have to buy the starter kit which was $199 when I become a demonstrator. They are having a special right now for only $99 to sign up. I spend about $50 a month on supplies but I also charge for my classes so that is reimbursed. I spend $12/month for my jerky business but I get two bags of jerky for that.
How long has it taken you to start earning an income through this?
I had some friends who were interested in stamping right away. You do make and instant income on every product you sell, plus extra income if you meet certain levels. Of course, some of the income I spend on my own habit! I have never had a problem meeting my quarterly minimums. You have to be willing to show your customers new and exciting techniques and products to keep them interested as well. With my Jerky business, I have been slow in promoting it, but I do have a few people signed up. It is an easy sell if someone loves Jerky and you can make $2/month for every person you sign up.
What are your future goals with the business?
I am trying to get new people interested in Stampin’ Up! and I encourage my customers to invite friends to the classes. I often have prizes for my customers for orders or adding someone to my mailing list. I do some online advertising for the Jerky business and I am going to try some school fundraisers as well.
