phone recorderThis call may be recorded…. how often have you heard that one? It is a very common thing to do in business now a days. Will you do it? I have thought about getting a phone recorder to even just record some of the calls I get for work, to help me train, you know, listen to them and then learn what I am doing wrong.

Even more so if I had another type of business, like if I sold ‘full time’ or heck, even part time online, or on ebay, there are alot of conversations you may have during the day that may come back to haunt you, for instance, what if you buy 500 tables on ebay to resell, the seller calls you to tell you that they cant ship the tables today for whatever reason and they swear to ship by the end of the week, then later, another excuse, well, since all of these arrangements were made over the phone, you cant fight it if he backs out. It is his word against yours. If you record all of your business calls, you can prevent this, by letting everyone know it is recorded (depending on your laws) you not only prevent them from lying somewhat based on the fact that they are scared, but if they DO lie, you have their first statements.

Maybe the ebay example was a bad one, but you get the jist. Oh my, can you imagine for the web or graphic design industry…. how many times have you been told… “I asked you for this…” but you have no proof that they really asked for that…..that would have saved me alot of trouble! What do you think, how would you use one?

I can totally see this in the web design element! Our good friends own a design firm and they have told me nightmare stories about clients going back on their word. I will have to tell them about this! Thanks, great information!

When I worked for 911 and the cable company, we recorded conversations…for 911 you just heard a little beep in the background, but the cable company notified you with a voice recording it may be recorded.

yeah Julie, I thought of that at the last minute, any sort of job where you have customers like that it would be a great thing to have if only for you own notes! Wish I had had it!

And Deb, yeah, same with our town, I know some states have different laws on how you announce it, and even if you have to, I would be sure to check into that before I started recording anyhing!
