Sensitive Data? Zip it!

| April 24th, 2007

Loose lips sink ships, my father used to always say that. When it came to protecting data and us, my dad was on the ball, he kept all of his files in a locked firebox, inside of a locked file, inside of a locked closet! LOL He did not take chances, of course he had a ton of rare coins to keep too. Well, with todays technology, keeping things secure is pretty difficult. But they have ZIP programs, like the free one from www.securezip.com to help combat that problem.

I just went and downloaded the free enterprise edition, all you have to do is enter your email address, and I now have the ability to securely zip up sensitive files before I sent them via email, burn them to a disk, or even just store them. That is a great thing for me and my husband to have on this PC, there have been countless times where he needs to email himself from work with some important accounting files that he needs to be able to work on from home, now he can zip them up at work and email them without worrying about loosing his job because some teenage hacker just went to his email and stole all of the companies credit card info!

Same with me, when I do web design work, sometimes I have access to the customers CC info, shopping cart set up, etc that I need to email back to them, what if that email gets stolen? I am in big trouble!! LOL Now I can zip all of that up and send it with no worries. Luckly I personally do not use alot of stuff that is all that secure, but my hubby does, so I am glad they are letting us try this out, he will put it to good use!
