One of the main reasons why many people would like to work from home is so that they can take care of their children. However, without actually having any experience of working from home, it is hard to understand exactly what it will be like. Often you d not have the time that you thought that you would and that can
lead to potential problems.
The Truth about Working from Home
The fantasy of working from home and the reality are two very different things. You imagine it to be more relaxed, more controlled and the perfect answer to all of your problems. However, whilst it may certainly be a lot more controlled, unfortunately it is definitely not usually more relaxed or the answer to all of your problems! So if the main reason that you want to work from home is your children, then you are going to need to learn a few things before you take the plunge.
Working from home will be challenging and it will demand a high level of motivation. Despite what you may read, working from home does not usually make you thousands of dollars for doing nothing. You need to really work hard in order to get the financial gain that you require. Also, until you can build up a good client database, the money is not going to be overly great to start with. This means that you will need some kind of financial help to keep you going.
Managing Work and Children
You are going to find it extremely difficult to work from home and look after your children. In order to have the best chance of making it work, you will need to have some kind of schedule. Whenever your children are sleeping or playing, you will need to be able to work as hard as you can.
It is certainly not impossible to work at home when you have children, but it is not easy either. So the sooner that you realize that you will have to work hard to achieve what you need, the easier working at home will be for you. For many it is simply a shock when they make the transition from working for a company to being their own boss. Yes you can sleep in and be a little more relaxed, but generally it is incredibly difficult to juggle everything that needs doing.
The best way to get around it is to make a schedule which takes into account your children’s sleeping patterns and daily chores that need doing. Prioritize tasks and tick them off as you do them. That way you have a good chance of juggling work, children and home as successfully as possible.
