Working from home can be rewarding, but what about those days where the work out weighs the rewards? Here are some tried and true ways to stay motivated in your business. In order to be successful, you must be energetic and love your field, sometimes taking a step back helps, if not;
- Make a vision statement, and read it often. Maybe print it out and hang it on your wall, a lady I talked to last month says she even framed hers where she can see it. If you have a powerful vision or mission statement, and read it when you are down, you can help pick yourself up by reminding yourself why you are working to begin with, he higher purpose. In addition to the statement, write out the reasons you chose to work from home.
- Use a system that helps motivate you, for example, the Blog Mastermind program, while it is a paid program, I have found it to be rewarding to the point where I would have paid more if it was more, the weekly emails and assignments for bloggers has helped me tremendously in attracting and approaching advertisers. The networking in the private forum is also a great motivation and perk of the program. If your not a blogger, find a similar program for your industry, or make one, if you are an expert in your field.
- Positive Thoughts and Self-Talk can do wonders, when you are stressed out, you may say things like “I can’t” or “this is going to take forever” even things like “Whats the point?” All of these thoughts can hinder you, start to try to think positive thoughts, check out I Can Do It Cards, Business Success
or The Totality of Possibilities
by Louise Hay, she writes a bunch of books on the power of positive affirmations, something ever home business person should practice. Tell yourself you make a lot of money and help a lot of people achieve their goals, and it will begin to become a reality for you. It really does work.
- Take a Break, this one id difficult, but may be needed before you run the business in to the ground because you are not passionate (for a blogger this could equal out to be poor posts, a marketer may fail to follow up on good leads, etc. No matter what field you are in, you started working at home with one reason being ‘flexibility’ use it, ask another blogger to guest post for a few days, or just take off, it wont hurt anyone, you may have to work a little harder when you return, but you will have kept yourself from quitting altogether. By taking a break we can refocus and come up with new ideas. I usually try to publish a few articles on Fridays that will post to the blog on Saturday and Sunday, by doing this I allow myself to stay away from the computer all weekend, I need that break or I will get burnt out, and while I still check my email through the weekend, I do not reply to comments until Monday morning, this makes for about an hour on Monday while I go through and respond to every comment and email, but I feel refreshed and it isn’t ‘work’ because I had that well deserved break.
Good luck and tons of success to you!

Eve,
Great post. All suggestions you’ve offered are important. I agree with the emphasis you put on the need to Take a Break. Nothing clears one’s mind and gets the creative juices flowing with some time away, reflecting, and just living.
Thanks Mark!
