Finding a Business Partner

network.gifI have been considering finding a business partner to go in with me on the wholesale sales business that I am about to start, splitting everything 50/50 as long as the work is 50/50. I am sure it will take me quite a while to pick one, as I really want to become friends and get all details ironed out before I jump in and end up with a bad partner.

I got the offer to review a business networking site called DirectMatches, it is a lot like facebook, but built for the business network. I am thinking of starting there to find a partner, it seems much more professional than facebook, which I like, I was disappointed with how facebook worked. The site has a classified ads section, as well as a cool looking pixel ad page. I still have a lot more exploring to do, but it seems like a good site so far. I like the forums, they have a lot of info so far.

Have any of you gone into a partnership with someone you met online? What is your experience and tips for this? Would we need a contract, do you recommend doing it yourself or finding a partner? I would be intrested in hearing your ideas.

Thanks for mentioning DirectMatches. I’ll be checking it out. I am always on the lookout for sites such as this and I haven’t heard of this one yet.

Hi,

It really depends on how big your business is and how much profit you earn from it. If you think you can handle your business on your own then there is no need for a partner, having a partner means you have to share whatever profit you earn.

If your business is growing and the profit is increasing then you may start looking for a partner to help you out just be careful though.

For me the ideal business partner would be someone you know already for a very long time, someone you have given your trust and of course someone who has the knowledge on the business you are running.

Sounds like you are in a position very similar to the one I was in a while back. I spent a lot of time offline trying to find a partner and didn’t have much luck. Then, I started searching online and with about 1/4 the effort, I was able to find a partner.

The company that I am starting is still in stealth mode, but is a web 2.0 travel site that we’ll be launching soon. I am a technical guy, so I needed to find a business development/sales partner.

The site that I found my business partner on was PartnerUp.

Good luck with your search.
