Stop Selling Once It’s Sold!

| November 9th, 2007

If you have the gift of gab sales are a lot easier both on and off-line. Communications skills are not a matter of black and white you have it or you don’t. Everyone is in the gray area ranging from having very little to lots. Being able to sell someone by highlighting benefits of a product or service and initiating an emotional attachment to it is a skill; a very lucrative one.

This skill like many however is double edged; the exact qualities that can get you the sale are the exact qualities that can ruin it. The ability to make someone realize your point of view or benefits to what you are selling often comes with a certain enthusiasm and intensity that isn’t always easy to shut off. It is an art knowing when you’ve successfully sold or convinced someone and it’s time to stop selling.

Once the person you are dealing with decides to accept the terms offered, stop dialogging on the benefits or features. That time has come and gone; keep the conversation light.
