We’ve all heard of mystery shoppers before and often have the fantasy of going into the fanciest restaurants and hotels, being pampered and then reporting back. The reality of the matter is that mystery shopping does exist but for the most part it is no where near as glamorous. If you love shopping why not do it from time to time and get paid?
My family and I were driving through Vermont to visit relatives when we decided to pull over for some gas and ended up visiting McDonald’s. In line I overheard the ladies in front of me discussing mystery shopping. I joined in the conversation and got the low down on mystery shopping as well as the websites to apply at.
There is a whole industry on the internet of ranking for “mystery shopper” keyword and selling you the information of companies that are hiring. Skip through that whole world of smoke and mirrors and visit the website below.
Shop’N Check Worldwide - Mystery Shopper
Shop’N Check Canada - Mystery Shopper
I signed up at Shop N Check and actually received a lot of offers. I’ve always had a job and golf excessively so never actually took them up and did an assignment. The common payout is ~$8-15 if I remember correctly and you get to keep the items you purchase. Common jobs are often everyday places you’d spend money anyways so that may interest you.
Typically they request a report written about certain areas that you were made aware of before the job started. It is relaxed where the job needs to be done by a certain date and apart from that it is up to you. Sometimes if they need something done urgently you’ll receive a call from them and those jobs more times than not pay higher.
In order to qualify you will have to fill out some forms and answer some questions. I don’t think it’s overly difficult if you can follow basic instructions and write a simple structured report.
The websites mentioned could be a small part of your answer to being free from the 9-5. It pays quite well for the minimal amount of time required and can be quite interesting. Now that you know what it’s about does being a mystery shopper interest you?
Best of luck to all those who apply,

Thanks I heard that even P.I.’s are involved in mystery shopping these days. To report on customer service and more.
Wal-Mart and other major franchises get them all the time. They are sneaky!
Typically larger outfits are more likely to hire someone which is good for the selection of what you have to buy
Mystery Shopping is a valid work at home opportunity and I have never had to pay any money to get shops. On my blog I list companies that offer mystery shop opportunities ranging from retail and restaurant to hotel and banking.
