Air Travel - Hooray for Delays!
| February 9th, 2008Nothing like air travel; get to see the world without the traffic! As quick as it can be it can also be a major downer when the weather plays with you. Let me tell you about my week.
I flew into Toronto Pearson airport from Ottawa in a middle of a whiteout blizzard. Left Ottawa 1 hour late, waited on tarmack 1 hour, when arriving at Toronto circled for 30 minutes, waited on tarmack for 45 minutes, waited 30 minutes for luggage and then finally got to the cabs. Since 100 flights had been canceled; 150+ people in line; 50 or so in line for a limo. Average time to get Downtown (27KM) and back; 3 hours!
Luckily I was staying near the airport so I went to a shuttle; I prefer a cab because you just walk right in but a shuttle is free so hey why not especially when there is NO WAY you are getting a cab in the next 2-5 hours. Waited for 30 minutes the shuttle arrived; got stuck on the way and finally arrive at my hotel 6 hours later. This trip all said is normally 2 hours including airport wait; luggage everything. If you don’t have luggage to check which is my normal style it is ~1.5 hours; show up get on get off and that is that.

The way back; got there 2 hours early trying to switch onto an earlier flight; it was full and left on time. My flight comes late and has a tone of special needs so we got boarding 25 minutes late; that threw us off our de-icing time so we had to wait for that. Long story short arrived in Ottawa 2 hours later then I should have.
Air travel is still great but sometimes especially in the Winter … EXPECT DELAYS!

Add to that Mercury is in retrograde and travel and communication seems to get mighty screwed up! It goes retrograde three times a year, and it’s funny if you watch the trends.. it does seem to have an effect! Not only the winter weather, but add that to the mix and delays are definite!
Thanks for posting!
