Think Niche Opposed to Big

March 5, 2008 | Author: Rob | Filed under: What I am Doing

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

I used to always think if you wanted to make money online you needed to build a big resource site.  If you take shopping I thought I would need to design some large site that encompassed everything. I was wrong.

You don’t need to build a huge web presence to make money online. In fact making money online has never been easier in my opinion. How many people are trusting enough to do business online via credit card in 2008 compared to say 2000? I don’t have the statistics but I believe it a fair assumption to say many more.

Ebay has a great affiliate program and so does Amazon and other companies of the like.  Did you know that ebay gives 50-75% of commission for anyone you refer through your site who wins an auction? Did you also know that it provides you with $25-$35 per new user signup? Build a site / blog on a topic you are interested in and  throw the ads up. Before you do that though write 5-10 good articles on the topic; submit the articles to article directories etc… Submit your blog to blog directories etc… Choose a domain name which hopefully has the keywords of what you’re selling in them and you’re off to the races.

Take the Nintendo Wii. People were making a killing with Amazon mentioning somewhere that they were selling 17 units a second at one point. Well guess what?? Most of that I’m sure came through affiliates with simple little few page sites. The irony of the web today is it takes less time to make money then ever before but MORE time then ever to build a community or a resource.

Pick a topic you’re familiar with where people are searching and go for it. If it’s a popular topic you aren’t familiar with find someone familiar with it and pay them to write for you. (Seriously)

If you’ve never built a blog before and need some help; read this post it’s a good start.

I’m writing this after scraping TONES of snow and ice from my car this morning in dress shoes. Then getting stuck a few times. Luckily I maneuvered my way out ; many others weren’t so lucky. Bottom line is when are you going to take responsibility for your financial well being? Concentrated effort = results. Sometimes you just need a few good snowstorms to make you realize time is ticking…
