My Thoughts on Run of Site Advertising

Well it’s been almost 2 months since I posted about how this blog has gone run of site for advertising. I thought now would be  a great time to share some of my thoughts on the whole process.

What I liked about run of site advertising was that you got a good chunk of change up front and didn’t have to worry about monetization optimization etc for a period of time. Then again this blog is basically just a hobby so any money that I do make on it is gravy and it’s already paid for itself more than twice over the initial investment I made to purchase it in November. Notice the only thing I really liked about run of site was the chunk of change up front?

What I disliked about run of site was that for some reason the minute you lock your advertising abilities people come out of the woodwork and ask for advertising. Go figure! Over the last two months I’ve had more payments for advertising then ever before. At this time I’d like to say thanks to all the new advertisers who are very cool for being alright with waiting until the 10th of April for there ads to go live. Another thing I didn’t like is when you go run of site it’s like working for a salary. I hate salaries because whether I work my tail off or sleep under my desk I’m still going home with X. Salaries or guaranteed money with no room for advancement bore me; I love the thrill of over achieving in sales.

That being said if you are ever offered run of site and you have almost no advertisers and aren’t making much like I was then go for it.  However if you have your game on the go then I’d say don’t bother work something out with the person where they get great exposure. To do this you’d have to limit other advertisers so it’s not a directly competing product but still allow others to advertise. That would be my advice for anyone thinking of going run of site or in a similar situation.

Believe it or not I’m also excited about putting adsense back up on the left block. That was bringing in about $30US a month which I thought was incredible considering the lack of traffic volume. Not sure what posts but some were getting very high $$$ per click which is always great.

I’m also looking forward to adding my hosting and domain registration advertisements as well as the 3 links of advertisers who are paying for the next month coming up.

Those are my thoughts on run of site; what are yours?
