Twitter and Why I Love Micro Blogging

April 23, 2008 | Author: Rob | Filed under: Blogging

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

Micro Blogging is like Blogging for those with ADD; preferably ADHD and I love it! When it comes to micro blogging seems like the service I mentioned last update Twitter is the mecca.

I like micro blogging because you don’t need a “topic” or any intro, body or conclusion to it. Micro bloggeries are simply a random thought, statement, announcement, whatever. You can blog about the weather in one and then talk about some seo bloggeries you found recently in another. I like how twitter limits you to 140 characters as it constantly reminds us to put the message and not drown it with filler. Another part I’m loving is how you comment back and forth through replies in real time. I’d best describe it as a massive im where you subscribe to peoples feeds but they reply in real time a lot of the time.

I’ve made about 192 micro bloggeries in the last day but I often don’t post bloggeries here for a few days at a time. I think I might even turn this place into a micro blog where I try not to exceed 500 or 750 characters a post. Keep to that regiment except for the odd extensive ones whenever they comes out.

Methods of blogging are ever evolving and as more methods are discovered, used and accepted it opens the doors for people to explore these new types of media. I think I’d like to subscribe to a feed say on SEO where someone who is “in the scene” publishes their latest posts and all the bloggeries they’ve read recently from the blogs they subscribe to.

If you aren’t on twitter yet I think you should be. Follow me and I’ll gladly follow you. I think to get the most out of one of these you should subscribe to as many people as you can. You can always remove someone who sends crap through the feed but if you don’t subscribe how will you possibly learn something? I think a good number of people to follow is say ~1000+. Once following that many people I think you’ll get a good sample; you can add and remove as you please just always try and make sure you’re subscribing to at least 1000 people.

I have lot’s to say but this is getting really long for my liking already and I’ll deliver the rest another time with something else or on it’s own or maybe in a micro blog with no filler just keywords?

See you on twitter!

132 Updates in 24 hours ! I’m impressed and I am glad you are enjoying micro blogging.

I am a slow adapter of new technology but once I learn to think something can be useful there’s no turning back !

I’ve a Tumblelog on my blog, powered by tumblr and it fetches all my web activity every hour. And it’s one of the most popular pages on my site !

I’m also very excited about micro-video blogging currently marketed by seesmic but first I need to get my hands on a good camera.

Isn’t it funny how Twitter makes us start to realize the length of any Blog post we make these days?

I find that it’s cut down on my posting frequency, but improved my blog writing - as I tend to get to the point a bit faster. (Yes, that is faster… even if it takes me ten times longer than the average bear!)

Great post!!

I’d actually recommend that first time Twitter users follow around 300 until they get the sense of the flow - then yeah, around 1k is a good mix.
