If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!
You read it here first and now without further delay please visit the Official Announcement from Alexa.com.
Basically it appears as though they changed the algorithm to better display the internet habits of the average user over just the webmaster type user. Typically sites with high webmaster related traffic ranked very high on Alexa naturally as the average user of the toolbar was in fact a webmaster.
According to the announcement they will continue to make changes and not all sites were affected. How did I know about this so quickly you ask? Well Bloggeries went from 23,000 all the way back to 81,000. Doh! What else stinks is that it was 66,000 a year ago and I’ve been steadily working on it. I guess it is fair though and I’m still happy with the change despite it negatively affecting my rankings. I’ve said before that Alexa rankings were …
Importance of Domain Age in Search Results?
April 16, 2008 | Author: Rob | Filed under: SEO and Marketing
There is endless debate over the importance of domain age in calculating a sites search engine results position. (SERP) Most of us really don’t know what information and to what extent the search engines use to value the age of a domain in determining results and trust.
I was visiting Seo By the Sea a few days ago and Bill posted a wonderful post on the age of a domain affecting search results. This isn’t new stuff but it was discussing a patent where age of domain was mentioned which is a good sign. A lengthly discussion ensued and one of the coolest things about this site is that this A-List SEO Blogger will actually reply to every legitimate question asked. I was almost floored when my first question was replied to in 1 day and my second follow up in an hour.
Popular theory is that it’s the …
Focus to Avoid Information Overload

I believe the your success will be obtained to the degree you can focus on what’s important and implement the necessary steps to succeed. Why am I writing this on a Monday morning you ask? Simple reason is that online there is so much information that unless you focus and know what you want to do before you sit down you’ll just drift from one site to another. If you don’t focus your efforts you’ll definitely suffer from information overload which isn’t good for your psyche or productivity.
Since information is so readily available online today it’s almost become more of a curse then a blessing. Remember the days of going to a library finding 1 book on a subject; learning some presented facts then burying it to move on to other areas. Unfortunately the internet is like that which is it’s biggest pro and con. You will always find information …
Friendly Warning About Using Flickr for Photos
April 13, 2008 | Author: Rob | Filed under: SEO and Marketing
I’m sure many of you are aware of “Flickr“. It is a very popular photo / image hosting service that many use.
I’ll let you hear what happened from the horses mouth why you should be careful using flickr. For those of you who are too busy to read the link the summary is if you host all your images on flickr; they will get all the google / yahoo and msn image traffic that could of been going to your blog.
If you just want to host some images to share with friends that is one thing; if you are building a blog / website and these are relevant photos you will be publishing you may want to rethink using a public photo sharing host. Ever wonder how they get SOOOO much traffic?
