Some More Love from the Big G

May 2, 2008 | Author: Rob | Filed under: SEO and Marketing

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

As many of you know this site was penalized on Google in November 07. Luckily about 4 days after I bought it. (Wooohoooo). Did I quit? No.

The other morning I woke up and was pleased to see that this home business blog is now a PR3. Last update it was a PR2 which was a shocker was for the longest time it was just that lonely grey bar. They say the grass is always greener or in this case the PR bar is but I’m pleased with a PR3. The main reason I’m so pleased is in my mind this blog isn’t really at risk of being de-indexed. Being de-indexed is an online marketer or any webmasters worst nightmare.

Some of you may notice or comment that only the homepage has PR. You are right it does; why? I have a few guesses. Maybe the site is slowly regaining the trust of google so it does have PR but not in the inner pages so if the site decides to turn again it can’t give much juice. That is one guess. Another assumption could be that it’s because I don’t do ANY link building on this site. I have no real links coming to inner pages. One thing I could do and should do and you should to is to link to older posts with the appropriate keywords whenever you feel the need to mention them. Off site anchor text has a role but so does on site.

Ultimately I see the green bar as an indicator to some extent that you are an ethical net citizen in the eyes of google because if you do anything to manipulate the rankings they will more likely then not remove your rank all together. Obviously there will alway be some violators out there who still maintain their PR. Don’t worry about them; they are playing with fire and ultimately everyone pays eventually. I’m paying with discipline now others who are trying to make some money from it will eventually pay for it with regret. Regret is like a credit card debt in my mind while discipline is more like paying cash on the spot and forgetting it.

My question for you is this; how did the update treat your blog / site? For the better? For the worse? Did you get penalized or did you stay the same?

Did you read this far? Let me know what you think!

What’s the difference between all the PR ratings from 0-10? Where’s the best place to find out my PR?

Get some deep links to this blog, if your getting links to your front page only, then yes you will only have a PR3 on the front page.

This site has great potential, anf congrats on a PR3

I’d recommend installing the google toolbar. Also if not search “Check Page Rank” You’ll find some that will help you.

I had two changes in the last update. Both were improvements, thankfully. My main site, linked above, went from a PR 2 to a PR 3.

Also, one of my blogs went from 0 to 2. That was a nice surprise because in the update before that it went from 3 down to 0! So, good to know that blog is back in the good books with the Big G.
