Are you pretty nimble and skillful with the needle and thread? Does it seem like you are always making alterations and fixes for your friends and family’s clothing? If I am describing you, then you are the perfect candidate for a sewing home business owner.

Sewing Kit - Home Business Idea

The majority of people in this day and age do not know how to sew or repair their own clothing but are always on the lookout for an affordable way to keep the clothing and household décor that they have already invested their hard earned dollars on. Believe me, if you know somebody that sews, it is a miracle!

You may choose to offer a variety of sewing services or stick to just one type. Regardless, the business is high in demand and very profitable. The right people with these skills can turn sewing into a very lucrative work at home business that meets their hours and is always set at their own terms.

Ideas and services offered by a sewing home business owner can include:

* Sewing Machine Classes
* Home Sewing Courses
* Curtain Shortening
* Re-upholster Pillows
* Runners
* Chair Pillows
* Other Home Décor
* Slip Covers
* Children’s Clothing
* Basic/ Advanced Alterations
* Wedding & Prom Alterations

Before starting your business, ensure that you have all the supplies you will need for the services you plan to offer, as well as the desired working machinery. Make a price list for all your services. Print up business cards and flyers for your advertising. You can go to Vista Print and get the basic first 250 cards free with only the cost of shipping when you are just starting out. You can also just get some business card stock at your local office supply store and print them out yourself at home with a color printer. The costs now to do your own business cards are very minimal.

You will also need to consider whether you will require getting a business license for your business. Check with your local jurisdiction to determine if you need to or not before starting up. Make sure that you keep all of your bookkeeping in order and legal. Keep your receipts from purchases since they are tax write offs for business owners.

Distribute your business cards and post your flyers in places to generate the most business. For example, if you alter wedding attire, check with local wedding gown shops to see if you can leave your cards or post a flyer there. Do not forget about word of advertising, either. It is very powerful to the small business owner.

Recession Proofing Your Life

| March 27th, 2009

We’re going to have an a series of posts over the next few weeks about recession proofing your life. Best way to recession proof your life is to have a home business. Sure saw my post yesterday on how I believe this current turn around is nothing but hype.

Make Your Life Recession Proof

Reality is; what I think doesn’t matter! The market decides and your employer decides. All we can do as individuals is help ensure we’ll always have an income.

Having a steady income regardless of employment is a a great way to recession proof your life. Times get good times get bad but if you always have an income you can live and work anywhere in the world in any type of economic climate.

That said we have a new writer here named Amandalyn who will be taking over this series and I’ll continue posting whatever I feel like whenever I feel like as you’ve gotten used to.

If you have a home business idea and would like to share with our readers in rss and twitter let me know.

Keep Working For Yourself,

How many times have you tried to make money online and failed? If you are like the millions of people out there, then you have tried and failed for probably two main reasons. One, you just weren’t serious enough and two, you never properly developed your niche.

First you must find your niche and then work steadfast to make that niche yours. Becoming an expert in your niche is what will set you apart from your competition and put you above them in terms of authority and hopefully profit.

 Think about what YOU are good at.

If you have a hard time finding your niche, then ask yourself a few questions and write down all of your answers to make a list.

- What are your hobbies?
- What things do you like and  enjoy doing?
- How do you spend your free time?
- What are your favorite topics to talk about?
- When you were young, what was fun for you?
- What topics do you know more than most about
- Are there certain classes that you have taken    extensively?

With a list like this, finding your niche should become a whole lot easier. The niche or specific area you choose to concentrate on should definitely be something that you are passionate about and love spending time researching. Write articles, do proper research, subscribe to trade publications and build newsletters to send to your audience through your opt-in email list.

Being an online entrepreneur is simple if your tactics are strong and your information is fresh and informative. Keep in mind that your audience is looking for new content. Do not make the mistake of being like everyone else and just rehashing the same old thing over and over. The content you provide to your audience is going to affect your creditability and business you do.

A very popular way to go about this successfully is to promote your niche with BANS through an eBay affiliate program. BANS stands for Build A Niche Store. After finding a niche, it is important to stay on top of what people are searching for to pinpoint and know which keywords your market audience is using the most often. Keyword tracking tools are very useful and a great resource in accomplishing this effectively.

The Google Search-based Keyword Tool is free to use and actually calculates its results on current web searches. Another personal favorite is the Adwords Keyword Selection Tool.
