Hello,

It has been QUITE SOME TIME since I have updated here, yes? Lot’s has happened, let me enlighten you.

If you read the “About Me” section of this blog, you will know that it was always my dream to make a decent income from the internet and other passive means. Only my dream was different, it was to leave the rat race behind and go venture the world, experiencing new things and discovering strange places.

On September 4th, 2009 I left the office for the last time, for a long time. I will not say that I will never return to an office as one day, I probably will but it will be on my own terms, doing something I love.

For now, I’ve been traveling the globe blogging and dabbling in the “Mother Market” aka stocks.

This blog went offline for awhile due to random reasons but it is back and I’m proud to report that if you do have a dream, you do hold it dear and you do work towards it, it’s possible. That said your dream should be REALISTIC to ones talents and abilities but it’s possible no less.

I’m writing to you from Singapore. I’ve been traveling since September 16th, 2009 and have been to places including but not limited to: Vancouver, Victoria, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Bangkok, Koh Tao, Koh Phi Phi, Kuala Lumpur and after this, Bali then somewhere I have yet to determine but looking like back to Bangkok to get some work done and just relax in a cheap place with a plethora of dining options.

You can do what you want, you just have to pay the price.

Stay tuned.

This is a quick piece on why you should always moderate and take care of spam comments to bad neighborhoods on your blogs.

People like myself like to sell. I don’t care much for maintenance be it a website or mowing my lawn. As a result I rarely do either. I was flipping through some sites and found unholy amounts of spam comments both in moderation and live on my site.

The comments here are dofollow because I’ve never gotten around to making them “nofollow” whether I think comments should be follow or nofollow is irrelevant but if you leave them as dofollow (standard with wordpress install) you best mind your comments.

We all know linking to bad neighborhoods aka the internet ghetto’s aka the internet slums can affect how engines treat your site. After all online is much like life you’re compared to those you hang out with or even “judged” at times by those who think they are better but most likely are just more insecure.

If you let your blog become a link farm for crappy c1al1s and v1@gr@ sites and such you’re bound to feel the wrath of “Uncle Search Engine” and why not? Why should you have special trust bestowed when you’re doing nothing to earn it / keep that trust? “You are who you link to”.

Why am I bringing this up? Is it because it’s a Friday night and I have nothing better to do? Perhaps. Or I just felt like blogging for the sake of blogging and unlike many of my bloggeries this has a clear message. The message is mind your comments and other outbound links on your site or the engines may give you a stern reprimanding.

Would you allow links to bad neighborhoods in your bloggerie(posts) themselves? Heck no; then why is it ok to leave dozens or hundreds (sigh) from your blog? It’s basically the same thing and equally as reprehensible.

There was a PR update recently and this little piggy got none. Ironically we’re still crushing our main keyword but we don’t have the power to pass on trust because we haven’t done squat to keep it.

Keep working for yourself,

Rob

Are you always in your kitchen making sweet candies and delicious treats for your family, friends and kids? Do your kids run in the door wanting their next after school treat? Do your neighbors just happen to wander in to taste your delicious creations? If this is the case, then you are sitting on a gold mine because you can start your own candy making home business.

Yes! That is right, candy! Who doesn’t love candy? You already know that. It doesn’t matter your age, background or job- everyone loves those delicious, sweet delicacies.

You can start today by coming up with a simple business plan by getting started on your way to your own Candy Home Business. Imagine being a stay at home entrepreneur who can become very successful with home grown talent! This business can be done part time or full time, depending on your desires and needs.

Think of all the money you can make and the extra time you would get to spend with your family. Not to mention that this business has minimal overhead, usually no employees and little investment. The process is simple, there is nothing to learn and you already have all the required skills to know how to make a phenomenal product ‘sell like candy.’ LOL!

Many people and organizations in the world buy candy everyday and give it for gifts to their loved ones and at parties. This is where your market lies. All you have to do is deliver the same high quality product that your family, friends and neighbors already enjoy and those same customers will return to you over and over again. Remember, you are turning a hobby into a successful entrepreneurship, so continue to love everything you do and take the same pride in it as you would if you were making for your family.

This business is not just for moms who stay at home, so if you are a dad who loves to bake or create these sweet treats, then go for it! Candy making may just be the calling you have been looking for to sweeten up your career. The possibility of this ‘small home business’ turning into a successful enterprise is based on the quality and overall appearance of your product that your customers receive. Your number one job is to always deliver rich, unique candy that is of high quality and high expectations so that people will spread the word about your service and not only return to use you again, but refer other people to you.

You will want to make up flyers and create business cards for your Candy Making Business. As always, I recommend using Vista Print for your initial cards or making your own at home with some standard stock and a color printer. You can get 250 cards for free with VistaPrint and all you have to pay for is shipping. You really can’t beat the good deal! Make up a flyer and then either get a friend in the copy business to make you copies or go to a copy shop and have some nice copies made up. Color is best to attract attention. After you really get going or if you have the money now, take pictures of your products and have brochures or a small catalog made.

When you are coming up with your business plan, you will not only want to set prices and decide what you will sell but decide how you will present your product to your customers. This is very important to your business. Presentation is vital to catching your customer’s eye. You want to spend the additional money on the wrappers so that they actually match the same type of quality as the candy inside of them! Imagine that the wrapper cost will be instantaneously reimbursed once they are sold. Guaranteed!

Start your business out slow so that you are not overwhelmed with orders. This way you realize how much you can and can not handle. As you work flow increases, so will your orders. Once your business gets to be too much, you can outsource help. You never want to promise a delivery or deadline that you miss or you will lose clients.

All of your products should be accompanied with a 100% guarantee to ensure that your product is of the best quality. This will show your customers that you are serious, take pride in your work and offer only the best products.

You have multiple venues to sell your candies through. Word of mouth is always good and schools are great too but other places to sell your candy include:

· Sweet Shops
· Gourmet Stores
· Online
· Candy making parties
· Candy selling parties
· Corporate Events
· Holiday Parties
· Catalog Parties
· Other Creative Ideas
· Fundraisers that you can get involved with
· Church

If you work out everything the way that I have laid it out and take pride in every product that you sale, then you can easily turn your talent into a great home business that will do more than put some extra money into your pocket!

Keep working from home!

Are you pretty nimble and skillful with the needle and thread? Does it seem like you are always making alterations and fixes for your friends and family’s clothing? If I am describing you, then you are the perfect candidate for a sewing home business owner.

The majority of people in this day and age do not know how to sew or repair their own clothing but are always on the lookout for an affordable way to keep the clothing and household décor that they have already invested their hard earned dollars on. Believe me, if you know somebody that sews, it is a miracle!

You may choose to offer a variety of sewing services or stick to just one type. Regardless, the business is high in demand and very profitable. The right people with these skills can turn sewing into a very lucrative work at home business that meets their hours and is always set at their own terms.

Ideas and services offered by a sewing home business owner can include:

* Sewing Machine Classes
* Home Sewing Courses
* Curtain Shortening
* Re-upholster Pillows
* Runners
* Chair Pillows
* Other Home Décor
* Slip Covers
* Children’s Clothing
* Basic/ Advanced Alterations
* Wedding & Prom Alterations

Before starting your business, ensure that you have all the supplies you will need for the services you plan to offer, as well as the desired working machinery. Make a price list for all your services. Print up business cards and flyers for your advertising. You can go to Vista Print and get the basic first 250 cards free with only the cost of shipping when you are just starting out. You can also just get some business card stock at your local office supply store and print them out yourself at home with a color printer. The costs now to do your own business cards are very minimal.

You will also need to consider whether you will require getting a business license for your business. Check with your local jurisdiction to determine if you need to or not before starting up. Make sure that you keep all of your bookkeeping in order and legal. Keep your receipts from purchases since they are tax write offs for business owners.

Distribute your business cards and post your flyers in places to generate the most business. For example, if you alter wedding attire, check with local wedding gown shops to see if you can leave your cards or post a flyer there. Do not forget about word of advertising, either. It is very powerful to the small business owner.

Keep working from home,

This is just a sobering bloggery for everyone out there thinking this recession is over because the market is rallying on phantom bank profits that are yet to be proven or the fact that Obama is spending tax payer money like a drunken sailor.

Image found here. Thanks to whoever took it!

Unemployment is still rising and it’s time to do your part in cutting back on your consumption. Sure some many say if we cut back on consumption it will further deepen the recession. As a collective yes that is true but I’m talking bout YOU the individual here. Let your neighbor go and buy a bunch of new stuff at crappy retail stores or even worse big ticket items thinking nothing will happen to them.

Reality is this storm is far from over so do your part for YOURSELF and start trimming the fat from your life. Don’t stop living but stop spending money on things you don’t really need or care for. Most people think bad things can’t happen to them and don’t plan for even a few “rainy days” that is why they are so screwed when sh!t hits the fan. Starting to save once you lose your income is TOO LATE. Think about it…

I’m still reading thousands of layoffs everyday in the newspaper and on the web. These are real people like us; getting laid off. If you live pay check to pay check you better check yourself before you wreck yourself. Chances are you won’t get laid off but what if you are?

You should have some savings and if you have savings you should have some more. It’s funny how consuming mindless junk is “trendy” yet people who save money are considered boring… What a world we live in!? How did buying trash become an International pass time?

If you have no clue how to save money… Go to google and type in “how to save money”. It’s actually pretty simple; you don’t spend everything you make… What a concept!?

Keep Working For Yourself!

Setbacks are similar to pain. It often occurs as a means to inform you that something you are doing is wrong. It may be the style in which you’re doing it or the game altogether. Whenever you have setbacks that seem horrible look at them for what they really are; opportunities. An opportunity to step back and realize that something isn’t working and change is required. It could also be a sign for you to appreciate what you have as somethings can never be lost and some things can never be won. You have it or you don’t.

When a major setback comes your way you can feel sorry for yourself and prolong the pain associated with it. The best thing to do is take time to reflect on what has happened, why it happened and what you can do differently to avoid similar outcomes. Some people experience a setback and just feel sorry for themselves; becoming damaged goods. Everytime things don’t go your way just look around wherever you are and discover what you’re supposed to learn from it. The more you think about it, there is always something positive you can take from every setback; if you let yourself. The funny thing is that positive can usually ignite something much greater; if you let it.

All I can say is I got onto this plane today stressing about something. After deliberating for a while things became crystal clear. I immediately realized how what I’m worrying about simply doesn’t matter; I’m actually thankful for this chain of events. The sign couldn’t be more clear and if I had not had this setback and taken the time to ponder it… I could of lived my entire life without the wisdom I just gained.

Life is all about perspective; changing your perspective changes your world. Sometimes you need a setback to correct your thinking and see things the way they really are.This temporary setback has already triggered something greater. If it had never happened I could of gone my entire life blind with my eyes wide open.

Next time you have a setback; discover what it’s true meaning is and act accordingly.

keep working from home and keep investing in yourself,

I’m writing this because for whatever reason when I woke up “Tweet Today - Pay Tomorrow” was the first thing that came to my mind. Maybe I’ve watched too many cheesy furniture commercials or it has deeper meaning? Twitter has made expressing your thoughts and opinions easier than ever before and to a wider audience at that.

Previously if you had something to say on the internet it would be done on a blog, in the comments of that blog or on web forum. Twitter has made expressing yourself incredibly easy. With this ease there comes potential problems.

Image by luc legay via Flickr

1) Using Your Real Name

If you work for yourself and use twitter as personal branding I can understand your approach. However going out on a limb I’d guess the majority of users on Twitter do not work solely for themselves but do a lot of “tweeting” during work hours. Twitter is huge it’s up there with Facebook; even the most luddite of a boss will of heard of Twitter by now and if not very soon. Being active on other social media sites poses less thread then Twitter does of one day paying for the tweets you make today. This could mean losing your job at the worst case scenario.

Employers use Facebook to get details on potential employees. Many employers are already looking at twitter and those that aren’t will be soon. Twitter is a public page and on an incredibly strong domain that is only increasing in strength. If you use your real name don’t be surprised if when you google your name your Twitter account will be on the top page if not top 5 results. Do you think an employer wants to hire someone who they have visible proof spends a sizable portion of their day at the “virtual water cooler?” Care to check when you make most of your tweets? click here.

Image by liber via Flickr

2) Sharing Things in Heat of the Moment

Have you ever been upset or angry about something and just went on a rant to someone? After the rant you feel kinda silly for a) getting so worked up and b) using such deplorable terms to describe the object of your aggravation? When you input your thoughts into that 140 character box and hit SEND it’s gone and it’s gone for good. This can be particularly damaging if you are using your real name. I know I’ve gone on a rant about some service providers before but quickly changed my mind before hitting “Send”.

Remember whatever you type into your profile is now part of peoples perception of YOU. You have total control over the information you release. Posting something like “I hate Burritos” is very different then “I hate X” X can be anything that people are generally uptight about from politics, sexuality to religion. Obviously “I hate” is a strong stance but there are many possible statements which create the same effect.

3) Sharing Too Much Personal Info

This is the internet for every great person you meet you can bet there is someone you don’t want to meet and don’t want knowing to much about you. People are using Britekite or their iPhones to stamp their GPS coordinates. I bet you; please never do that from where you live. Do you really want that information out there to absolutely ANYONE who cares to look it up? I mean what value do you get from it? If you’re at a huge conference and you pump in the coordinates of the party you are at; big deal. If you are putting coordinates to your home, work or any other place you frequent often and consider safe I’d think twice.

If you use your real name AND release information like this… Please think long and hard as to why you are doing this and the possible negative consequences. Frankly I can’t really think of any positive ones? Can someone enlighten me?

4) Giving a False Impression

Twitter is on the forefront of the “real-time web”. The concept makes such sense that it’s surprising it took the brilliant minds of our generation so long to create such a service which connects everyone instantly. The days of hiding behind a username on some forum are long gone. If you use an avatar of yourself from 1995 that is airbrushed; you’ll look like a fake and a liar when you do meet people in person. That is if they even recognize you. Also be prepared to backup who you claim to be. This is the real time web and you’re expected to be a real person. Many people give the impression of something they are not. It’s not worth it; just be yourself because if you aren’t you’ll be found out and ruin your reputation online and offline. Basically if you claim to be something you’re not don’t be surprised if you get called out.

Image via Wikipedia

5) Not Drinking Enough Water

Before you get crazy and hit a send button saying “whatever” think about what you’re doing. Even before that when you make an account think about the name you’re going to use… It may not be today or tomorrow but if you overindulge or spread false truths, one day you will regret it and experience that dreaded “social media hangover”. Stay at the party as long as you want but just don’t over do it or you’ll probably regret it.

Keep working for yourself,
